WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We need some of your time and a 34¢ stamp
The theater musicians of Local 655 have been on strike against Broadway theatrical presenter SFX since the end of November. SFX is the company that brings in such Broadway shows as Cabaret, Fosse, & Fiddler On The Roof. We have been attempting to get their wages increased to the industry standards that we have fallen significantly behind.
During this time, SFX has continued to present shows using tape-recorded music, depriving the theater-going public of the "live" Broadway experience that they richly deserve and are paying for.
Because the public is being "robbed" of the true
Broadway experience, we strongly urge you to ask your friends and neighbors to
write or call SFX demanding that they do one of two things:
1) Demand that SFX settle this strike by offering the musicians of our community
a fair and industry standard wage;
(or)
2) At the very least, demand that SFX reduce the ticket price to reflect the
lack of live music at the performances.
In either case, the theater-going public needs to let SFX know that they do not appreciate being taken advantage of.
We have 900 members at Local 655. If each of you had just two friends or neighbors help out by writing or calling, imagine the impact of those 1,800 calls!
We are also contacting other labor organizations in our area
and trying to enlist help in this area, but just our "musical family"
alone can have a great impact if we take the time to assist each other in this
time of need. This doesn't take a lot of time or money, just caring.
