Casual Corner
FROM JAKE LUGER...
A big thanks to all the musicians from Local 655
participating in MPTF gigs. The co-sponsors and the communities you served
remain most appreciative. I look forward to increased participation from all of
you in the next MPTF fiscal year, which begins May 1.
For those of you who have not yet heard, MPTF has funds still available for
educational performances, and will fund up to 100% of the cost for projects
through April 30. For all other gigs, and for educational gigs after April 30,
please remember that MPTF will fund up to 40% of the cost of those performances!
I look forward to your calls.
SFX Strike Ends
The five-month strike against SFX/PTG-Florida, Inc. has come
to an end after ratification of an agreement by members on March 12. The
agreement contains a retroactive increase in pay with AFM-EP contributions. AFM
musicians returned to work on March 20. The first post-settlement show to
feature AFM musicians is "SWING!"
The strike, which began in November, was an attempt to bring substandard wages
in line with other comparable productions in the region.
Paychecks for the retroactive pay increase have already been mailed. If you worked for PTG/SFX between December 1, 1999 and March 2001, you should already have received your check. Please contact us if have not received a check or are unsure as to whether you should be receiving one. Thank you!
Thank You!
Our thanks go to Jim and Sue Bermann and their daughter Emily for walking the SFX picket lines. Their names were missing from the list of picket-walkers published in our last issue, and we apologize for this omission.
