Colorado Band Fights Monopoly

Colorado jam band String Cheese Incident has resumed the battle against Ticketmaster’s dominance that Pearl Jam began ten years ago. In protest of the excessive convenience and processing charges that Ticketmaster adds to the ticket price,  the band has been selling the “holds” (seats reserved for the artists) directly to their fans. Ticketmaster’s response? To reduce  the number of seats held for artists and restrict how the bands can distribute them (aided by the promoter-Goliath ClearChannel). Both parties have filed lawsuits against each other. Speaking of monopolies, ClearChannel, owner of 1225 radio stations, numerous venues, and a concert promoter as well, is getting into the record-producing business. The venture, called Instant Live, will record live performances and sell the recordings immediately following the performance. All the more reason for an AFM contract in place…
