That Union Thing

Broward public school teachers dressed in black on August 20 to protest their lack of a contract and state education funding cuts. Negotiators have declared an impasse and teachers may stage another protest on September 3.

Amalgamated Transit Union Local 587 has filed an unfair labor practice against Seattle Metro transit for awarding a contract to a nonunion company. As a result, 140 drivers who recently negotiated a new wage agreement with MV Transportation will be out of work and others will have to take a pay cut to drive for the nonunion company.

The AFL-CIO has filed a complaint with the FEC, charging that Wal-Mart has intimidated workers and encouraged them to vote against Senator Barack Obama because of his support for the Employee Free Choice Act.
