MusicFIRST Coalition Seeks Individuals for Steering Committee

The MusicFIRST Coalition is seeking individuals to assist in its fight to secure passage of legislation mandating payment to performers for over-the-air broadcast of their music.

For decades, AM and FM broadcasters have enjoyed an exemption from current copyright law which requires satellite radio, cable radio channels, and Internet webcasts to pay a royalty for the use of music. The Performance Rights Act (H.R. 4789) would correct a loophole in the copyright law by removing the broadcaster exemption to assure that all platforms are treated equally and pay a performance royalty to artists. With an upcoming hearing on the Performance Rights Act (H.R. 4789), we need your help now more than ever.

The MusicFIRST Coalition was formed a year ago by the AFM, AFTRA, The Recording Academy, the American Association of Independent Music, the Christian Music Trade Association, the Music Managers Forum - USA, The Latin Recording Academy, The Rhythm and Blues Foundation, the Recording Artists' Coalition, the Recording Industry Association of America, the Society of Singers, SoundExchange and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.
