Last Month at the Local

Last month you received a warning from us about the Hanson String Theory engagement. The Local exists to facilitate sharing information, and we encourage you to contact us if you are approached by an employer that you are not familiar with.

We may have information that will help you decide whether to accept a gig...do they pay well? Do they pay on time? Have there been problems in the past? And of course you should always do your own homework. Ask for details in writing before you accept the gig. What does it pay? What is the schedule? Will I be reimbursed for parking? When will I be paid? Is this covered by an AFM agreement? If there is ever a dispute, having something in writing can make a huge difference. And of course, if there is an AFM agreement, Local staff will do the work for you if the agreement ever needs to be enforced!

We also visited with Broadway Across America musicians playing for Phantom of the Opera last month. Not everyone has time to come to a membership meeting, so visiting musicians where they work gives us a chance to talk with more members and gives you an opportunity to speak directly with us about your concerns. We have several more field visits planned this season, so if you cannot make it to a membership meeting, please stop by and say "hello" when we visit your gigs. We look forward to speaking with you face to face.
