A report by the Bureau of Economic Analysis indicates that the arts are a bigger part of the economy than agriculture or transportation.

In 2015 the arts contributed over $763 billion to the economy, or 4.2 percent of the GDP. The arts also employed nearly five million Americans. Additionally, the arts exported $21 billion more than it imported, creating a trade surplus with other countries.

For the third straight year, President Trump has proposed elimination of the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Corporation of Public Broadcasting. In his proposed fiscal year 2020 budget, the President has proposed eliminating all funding for these organizations.

Spotify has filed an antitrust complaint against Apple with the European Union. Spotify claims that Apple is harming consumer choice by restricting apps that fail to pay Apple a 30 percent cut of subscription prices. Apps that fail to pay Apple are locked out of services such as Siri, HomePod, and Apple Watch.

The British platform LIVR is the first on-demand virtual reality theater streaming service. The service offers immersive 360-degree performances of more than 100 productions, with more productions being added each month.

PBS is launching PBS Living, subscription based video-on-demand available on Amazon Prime Video Channels for $2.99 per month. The channel will offer episodes of PBS food, home, travel, and culture programming, including international drama programming.

The Hawaii Symphony has a new two-year contract with musicians. The new agreement increases the season length from 15 to 16 weeks and raises wages by nine percent.

The Chicago Symphony is on strike. The main issue musicians are fighting is the orchestra's plan to eliminate their pension plan and replace it with a defined contribution plan.
