Solidarity in Action

Thanks to musicians standing together, those that are performing for HBO's The Gilded Age are now protected by an AFM contract.

The actors, stagehands, and others working for the show were covered by union contracts, and the musicians were initially told they would be paid union rates, but later discovered that there was no AFM contract in place. When the musicians went to producers and insisted on an AFM contract, they were fired. Musicians stood together, with the support of SAG-AGTRA, the Teamsters, the Writers Guild, and the New York State AFL-CIO, and they also reached out to New York State legislators. Together they told HBO that musicians would not be bullied into accepting substandard wages and conditions. And in the end David won, and the global media company caved and agreed to sign an AFM contract. The power of solidarity in action can move mountains!
