The Downtown Doral Arts and Culture Foundation has received $100,000 as a winner of the Knight Arts Challenge.

The grant will be used for Downtown Doral Holiday Festival, a festival of diverse arts programming in open-air Downtown Doral.

Miami Music Project, Play on Philly, and the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation have partnered to create the Teaching Artists Training Institute, which will train faculty for El-Sistema-inspired and community music programs across the country. In addition to regional training, the Institute will also hold a week-long retreat in Miami.

A report by the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation reports that only 56 percent of Chicago arts organizations with budgets under $1 million have returned to in-person performances. 64 percent of the remaining organizations are waiting to further monitor the COVID-19 pandemic before returning to in-person performances, and 20 percent reported that returning to in-person performances was still to risky financially.

Miami Music Project has received $100,000 from the Jorge M. Perez Family Foundation as part of the CreARTE grants program. MMP will use the funding to provide more access to music education for local children.

South Arts and the Ford Foundation are launching Southern Cultural Treasures to provide funding to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color-led organizations in the south. A study found that arts funding in the south is at less than half of the national per capita average. The program will provide $6 million over four years to 12 to 15 organizations.

Broadway is slowly recovering. For the first week of November, the 30 running productions grossed nearly $23 million, playing to 82 percent of capacity. That is up from 77 percent of capacity and just under $20 million the previous week.

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is investing $1.5 million in the North Beach Bandshell. The Bandshell just celebrated its 60th anniversary and has been named a historic landmark. The grant will be used to install equipment and software to make the Bandshell a space for multimedia and virtual performances. The equipment will allow livestreaming, recording of performances, projection mapping, and live digital media interaction.

Disney Plus growth has slowed. For its fiscal fourth quarter, the service only added 2.1 million new subscribers, for a total of 118.1 million. During the prior quarter, the service added 12 million new subscribers.

Comcast lost $520 million in its third quarter from its NBCUniversal streaming service Peacock. The service only added a few million subscribers to the 54 million it had at the end of the second quarter.

For the first time since the pandemic began, AMC has had the majority of its theaters open for the entire quarter. 40 million guests saw movies in AMC theaters during the third quarter of 2021 and the chain took in $755.6 million in revenue, up from $119.5 a year ago.
