Last Month at the Local

We have completed the ratification process for the Palm Beach Opera collective bargaining agreement and musicians have voted in favor of ratifying the new agreement.

While we had reached a tentative agreement with management, the AFM is a democratic organization and the AFM musicians performing with the Opera have the final say on whether to accept the contract. If the vote is in favor of ratification, we have a new agreement. If the vote is against ratification, we have to go back to the negotiating table. Since these musicians are the ones working under the agreement, it is only right for them to decide if the negotiating team did their best to address musician concerns.

Under the new agreement, wages will rise eleven percent in the first year, seven percent in the second year, and five percent in the third year. All rounds of auditions will now be held behind a screen, and there is a new section in the agreement covering protections from harassment.
