In the last Congress, Senator Feingold of Wisconsin introduced the Competition in Radio and Concert Industries Act, and he is about to re-introduce the bill. You can help:

The Telecommunications Act of 1996 loosened the caps on the number of radio stations that can be owned by one entity, which has led to consolidation almost to the point of monopolies. In south Florida, Clear Channel owns 14 stations, including WINZ, WIOD, and WJNO, and has cancelled many local programs in favor of syndicated fare. Clear Channel also owns Coral Sky Amphitheatre and is a presenter of events.
Senator Feingold’s Bill would do the following:
Promote free speech through diverse radio programming by increasing competition.
Prohibit radio station owners and concert presenters from acting in an anti-competitive manner.
Prevent upward revision of the limitation on multiple ownership of radio stations.
Close a loophole covering “payola”— pay for airplay.
These practices hurt professional musicians, reduce competition, raise ticket prices, and reduce choices for consumers. Please voice your support for this bill!
