Scholarships for Students Available
South Florida Musicians Association and the Music Performance Fund are offering two $500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors and college undergraduates who will be majoring in Instrumental Music, Music Education, Composition, or Sound Recording / Industry Studies at an accredited college or university. Student must be actively involved in music, playing in school bands, community orchestras, etc.
Music Scholarship 2008 Rules & Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must submit a recording of their playing on Audio CD. (Please put name and phone number on CD label).
- Classical musicians must play two movements from two different genres (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Twentieth Century) from either a concerto or sonata.
- Jazz musicians must play a jazz ballad of your choice which must include one chorus of improvisation (no original compositions) and an up-tempo tune in any jazz style except blues which must include three choruses of improvisation.
- Application must be properly completed and submitted by the due date of 3/14/2008.
- Audio CD and essay questions on application will be given equal weight.
- Applications will be reviewed by a panel of AFM Local 655 professional musicians and teachers.
- Decision of the judges, and the amount awarded, is subject to final approval and certification by the Recording Industries Music Performance Fund.
- Applicants must currently reside in the AFM Local 655 jurisdiction which includes the following counties: Monroe, Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Indian River, Okeechobee, St Lucie, Martin, Glades, and Hendry (except the town of La Belle which is in the jurisdiction of Local 427-721)
