Tempo, our Political Action Committee...
What does TEMPO stand for?? Task Force for Employment of Musicians Promotional Organization.
What is it? A voluntary club formed in 1962 lobbying Congress and supporting deserving candidates for political office. In 1996, over $40,000 was distributed in 93 races.
Why does it exist? Federal law prohibits unions from using general funds to aid in election of candidates
-
What does it do? Supports deserving political candidates of all parties.
-
How does it select candidates to support? Selection is based on candidates’ association with the Locals in their district, their voting record, and their position on arts issues.
-
Why do we need it? Remember all the cuts in Federal arts funding?? A collected, concerted action can make our voices heard and help to enact legislation that serves the best interests of musicians.
-
How do I take part? Send a check payable to TEMPO to the Local.
