Cellist Iris van Eck has passed away at age 70. Van Eck was a member of Local 655 since 1985, and served as Director from 2009-2017 and as Vice President from 2017 to 2024. She was born in the Netherlands and studied both flute and cello before continuing her studies in the United States. As a cellist, she was a member of the Florida Philharmonic until just before its bankruptcy, and served as principal cellist for Florida Grand Opera and Symphony of the Americas. She was also founder of the Chameleon Musicians chamber music program. She is survived by her husband, Guy St. Amant, and her children Michele and Rene.
