The Ninth Circuit Court has affirmed a lower court ruling that Amazon would not receive a temporary injunction in a charge that it is a joint employer with its Direct Service Providers. The Teamsters have been organizing the DSPs for union representation, and in 2023 after worker support had grown Amazon cancelled the contract. Region 31 of the National Labor Relations Board found that the cancellation of the contract was an unfair labor practice in that it discriminated against union supporters.
More than 850 workers at 10 New Seasons stores in Portland, Oregon now have union representation. Their first three-year contract raises the starting wage to $19/hour and the median wage to $23.37/hour, with the lowest-paid workers receiving a 16.5 percent raise. Workers will also receive two consecutive days off per week, 12 hours off between shits, and their health insurance coverage will be maintained.
