Last Month at the Local

Last month the wage scale committee, led by Director Aron, met to review minimum wage scales and determine whether changes were in order. You should expect to see a proposal from them soon, which will likely be put on the agenda for a membership meeting before the end of the year.

The Palm Beach Opera Orchestra committee, led by AFM negotiator Campbell MacDonald, have begun negotiations with Palm Beach Opera. They have held two negotiating sessions, and have made some progress, but several more sessions are expected before an agreement is reached.

President Hawley and Secretary-Treasurer Apana have been meeting with officers of the other AFM Locals in Florida, as well as AFM staff, to discuss having a booth at the Florida Music Educators Association annual conference in Tampa. The event is an opportunity to expose young musicians to the AFM and educate them on the role of the union in their future careers.

Pension Fund Participant Webinars

The AFM-EPF has announced that it will offer bi-monthly 60-minute virtual webinars for Plan Participants. These sessions will explain how the Pension Plan works, provide an overview of some key Plan provisions and benefits, and review Plan resources. Sessions are open to all and will include an opportunity for interactive questions and answers. Click here to view dates and register.

AFM Electronic Media Department Office Hours

The AFM recording department has announced Office Hours open to any/all types of recording education. It’s the first & third Thursday of every month from 2-4pm ET on zoom. The zoom link is on their linktree page here, and also in the bio on the AFM Recording instagram where they will post reminders and updates. This is open to any and all musicians— member or not (and staff too). This time is allotted for general contract education, Q&A, brainstorming, venting, anything!
