Last Month at the Local

We are making progress on the appeal of a Palm Beach Opera musician dismissed for musical causes. We have a tentative date for a appeals committee hearing in August and hopefully this will be resolved soon. Tenure language in our contracts protects musicians from unfair dismissals and the appeals process allows each musician to “have their day in court.”

The Regional Orchestra Players Association began its annual meeting in July in Philadelphia. The Palm Beach Opera Orchestra is a member of ROPA and delegate Laura Winters is attending the conference. As our Opera contract expires next year, Laura is attending a negotiating workshop in advance of the conference. The conference is a great way to network with musicians in other regional orchestras across the country, and the cost of attendance is paid by the Local. We look forward to hearing a report next month!
