Last month the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra continued to meet to draft a contract proposal. They are in the process of finalizing their proposal and we hope to begin negotiations with the Opera at the beginning of August.
The Executive Board is in the process of reviewing proposed changes to the Broadway Across America hiring list. The list is updated every summer and contains the names of the first-call musicians for Broadway shows at the Broward Center and the Arsht Center. Several of the Board members met with the leadership of the other AFM Locals in Florida to discuss hosting a booth at the Florida Music Educators Association annual conference. The event is attended by music teachers and music students from across the state. The AFM has sponsored booths at similar events elsewhere in the country and is assisting the Florida AFM Locals with planning for their first booth.
The AFM sponsored a webinar on copyright issues last month. The webinar was presented by staff at the U.S. copyright office and provided a wealth of information on registering copyrights, protections offered by copyright, and how to properly use copyrighted material.
