AutoZone workers in New York are now represented by the United Auto Workers after an election conducted by the NLRB. This is the first AutoZone store to unionize. Their biggest complaint is that their wages have only kept up with increases in the New York minimum wage.
After years of negotiations, Blizzard employees have their first union contract with Microsoft. They first voted to be represented by the Communication Workers of America in 2022. Their new contract gives them recall rights and severance pay, protections against outsourcing, hybrid workweeks, and just cause protections and grievance procedures. They also have the right to bargain over the impact of artificial intelligence on their work.
Amazon is employing the “Atlas” model to spy on its workers in an attempt to stop unionization. Amazon collects data from internal communications, feedback reports, health and safety reports, and more, and then uses artificial intelligence to measure worker unrest and the potential for union activity, assigning a labor score to each worksite.
