San Francisco found more money for its educators after they went on strike for four days. The teachers had been coordinating with other teachers in California on a We Can’t Wait campaign to reduce class sizes, secure more resources, and secure competitive wages. Their new contract includes fully funded health care and an 8.5 percent raise over two years.
The Writers Guild has reached agreement on a new four-year contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers group. As part of the agreement, AMPTP will provide $321 million to shore up the writers’ health fund. Writers will also receive increased steaming residuals and raises of 1.5 percent in the first year and 3 percent in each of the final three years. AMPTP will also continue to meet with the writers to work on guardrails for the use of artificial intelligence.
REI Union has announced a boycott of REI’s Anniversary Sale in May after the retailer announced a reduction in benefits and starting pay. Eleven of the retailer’s stores are now unionized and they have been in negotiations for six months, but those negotiations have now broken down.
